What is a vestibuloplasty?

Firstly, the mouth is divided into two sections: the vestibule, or the area between the cheeks and the teeth; and the oral cavity, which is, for the most part, taken up by the tongue. A vesibuloplasty is a surgical procedure that involves the heightening and widening of the gum region to allow the placement of dentures or implants.

When dentures are required for multiple missing teeth, the gum tissue and bone underneath the denture deteriorate, causing shrinkage of bone. The membranes and tissue covering the one also deteriorates. To replace these losses, vestibuloplasties are performed.
